While we are not technically in a recession, it sure feels that way sometimes.
Either way, here is an overview of how long and deep recessions and expansions have run in the past. We are fortunate they tend to turn around rather quickly, but there are no guarantees.
Perspectives like this help keep us from giving up during the rough patches with investing that we knew would come. We tell clients to expect pullbacks every 5-10 years for the rest of their lives. It’s a normal part of the market, and we don’t get long-term returns without them.
